Samantha W. Ball is the Dignity Index Research Director, where she leads the development of an annual report on dignity in America and other Dignity Index research, measurement, and evaluation activities. Her work focuses on advancing research that encourages speech and processes supporting thoughtful, deliberative policymaking. Additionally, her work advances productive interactions in a variety of other settings, including workplaces, schools, and other aspects of civic life. Prior to leading Dignity Index research full-time, Dr. Ball was a senior research associate at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute conducting research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement on topics including health and human services, early childhood mental health, dignity in political speech, family-friendly workplace policies, and deliberative community engagement.
She holds a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Utah. Earlier in her career, Dr. Ball worked in Washington, D.C., as a Congressional legislative assistant and as a program analyst at the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. She also serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Utah.
